The schedule for the forthcoming International Symposium on Online Journalism is now available online and it has a great range of speakers.
The conference, held 4-5 April at the University of Texas at Austin, is unique in bringing both professionals and academics to discuss where journalism is going. But it also stands out for its international approach, with speakers from Brazil, Britain, Colombia, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and the UAE.
For a second year, I will be presenting a paper at the conference, entitled “The BBC goes blogging: Is ‘Auntie’ finally listening?” It looks at how a mainstream news institution has incorporated blogging as a tool for transparency and accountability in its journalism.
My friend and colleague, Neil Thurman, has the top rated paper for “Convergence Calls: Multimedia storytelling at British news websites”. I’ve read an early version of this paper and it offers a timely and insightful look at the adoption of video online.
The symposium is free, but online registration is required.
