American journalists should realise that there is a world beyond their borders.  An example of this is a story in the New York Times: Mainstream News Outlets Start Linking to Other Sites by Brian Stelter.

The article explains how news organizations are becoming more comfortable linking to competitors.  What it fails to mention is that one of the biggest news organisations, the BBC, has been doing this since 2004.

The BBC News website uses a system dubbed Newstracker to link to other news sites. Earlier this year, it said it was going to embark on a new push to link to commercial rivals.

Maybe the New York Times could add this to its story, as I could not see a way to add a comment to it.
