At the AEJMC annual conference in Denver, Aug 4-7, I am taking part in a session entitled Planning, Launching and Running a Convergent Student News Website.
I will be explaining how we created and launched the student publication, TheThunderbird.ca, at the UBC Graduate School of Journalism.
We use WordPress for the site, using a number of plugins to extend its functionality. Here are the ones I will mention in my presentation:

These are just a handful of the plugins available for WordPress. The list is intended as a starting point for journalism educators planning or overseeing a student website.

Shameless plugin: Edit Flow is a plugin we’ve been developing for the last year or so whose goal is to bring more of the editorial workflow inside WordPress. This includes the ability to define the different stages of your workflow, exchange comments between writer and editor, and view all upcoming assignments on an editorial calendar.
I’d also recommend Subscribe to Comments, allows commenters to get email notifications of new comments, and W3 Total Cache, which makes your site super fast.
