Alfred Hermida spoke at the IAMCR conference in Braga on Wednesday 21 July 2010 about the integrated journalism programme at the Graduate School of Journalism, University of British Columbia. The talk was titled Lessons from integrated approach to journalism education, and the argument it reported on was a curriculum one: rather than teaching print, broadcast and online as separate streams that students pick between, the UBC programme taught reporting across platforms as a single discipline.
Integrated curricula of that kind were still unusual enough in 2010 to be conference material. They have since become the ordinary shape of a journalism degree.
